Mood Boosting Tryptophan Rich Turkey Chilli
As we go through peri menopause and menopause we may find we have mood swings and trouble sleeping. This turkey chilli is rich in Tryptophan which is an essential amino acid and helps manufacture the neurotransmitter serotonin. Serotonin helps mood and may also support sleep and appetite which can make you feel better in yourself.
L-tryptophan is an essential amino acid that helps the body make proteins and certain brain-signalling chemicals. Your body changes L-tryptophan into a brain chemical called serotonin. Serotonin helps control your mood and sleep.
Tryptophan Rich Turkey Chilli
Serves 4
Ingredients
1 tbsp olive oil or unscented coconut oil
1 large white onion, finely diced
2 carrots, finely diced
1 stick of celery, finely diced
500g turkey mince
2 cloves of garlic, crushed
2 cans of chopped tomatoes
4 tbsp tomato puree
3 different coloured peppers, sliced or use sliced frozen mixed peppers
250g mushrooms, sliced
2-3 tbsp mild chilli powder
2 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp of allspice
100g sultanas
Directions
Warm the oil in a large saucepan. Sweat the onion, carrot and celery for 5 minutes, until the onions are translucent.
Add the mince to the pan and fry and until browned.
Add the remaining ingredients to the pan and heat until simmering.
Simmer for 30 minutes stirring occasionally, adding additional liquid if the mixture gets too dry.
Serve with brown rice or a green salad or just veggies. Enjoy!
